The Arts Council Own Art Innitiative

The Own Art scheme is designed to make it easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary works of art and craft including paintings, photography, sculpture, glassware and furniture.

You can borrow up to £2,000, or as little as £100, and pay back the loan in 10 monthly instalments - interest free*. The scheme is available through a network of over 250 participating venues across the country.

Glass Patchwork

This is what I seem to be headed towards. A patchwork quilt of glass designs and motifs fused together using Millefiori glass. Kaffe Fassett is a famous patchwork quilt designer and this site has the raw ingredients for a traditional patchwork quilt:

Fusion Gallery, Bristol

I found this gallery on the very steep "Christmas Steps", a collection of small shops on a hidden street in Bristol.
Because the street is literally 200 steps the amount of passers by is limited. However The Fusion Gallery is moving to 17 Perry Road (Opposite Zero Degrees) at the top of the road on 5th August.

Atticus Art Gallery, Bath

I visited Atticus Arts this weekend and met the owner. There was a private view on in the evening which she invited me to. The work was a mix of paintings and ceramics, all very good.

Beyond The Valley Store, London

There's plenty of ideas here and I like their principle:
A not-for-profit space next to London’s famous Carnaby St, providing young designers with a centrally located retail, gallery and studio space where they can test out new products and sell at affordable prices without getting exploited by unfair commission rates.

My Favourite Gallery in Bristol

I spent my teens growing up in Bristol and "The Bristol Guild" was always the place to find the most exciting arty things.
Althought it still exists, smaller outfits like The Soma Gallery offer new and exciting work from the west of England.
Will be visiting Bristol and Bath this weekend so hope to find some more stuff.

Books on Glass

At the recent Central St. Martins Glass Exhibition, Caroline had a display copy of a book entitled "Stained and Art Glass". This looks to be an older edition. 1000 Glass Beads is jammed full of inspired ideas for Millefiori glass.

Serpentine Pavilion

Definately worth a visit on a barmy Summer evening, the Serpentine Pavilion is refreshed annually with a new architectural commission. The centrepiece of this design is a spectacular ovoid-shaped inflatable canopy that floats above the Gallery's lawn. Made from translucent material, the structure will be illuminated from within at night. The canopy will be raised into the air or lowered to cover the amphitheatre below according to the weather.
